I finally got on the Parks and Rec bandwagon.

Um, does anyone else feel like you’re in US history at SHS when this guy is on? And hello, he’s younger than me IRL. CRIKEY.

Oh. I’m in love.

Not with quad photos, although I am quite fond of them.

I’m in love with this book.

Each year for the last few years, I say what was the best book of the year. This might be it for 2010. This, or The Lonely Polyg.

Previous winners are The Road, My Life in France, and I can’t remember what else.

I need to noodle on 2010, but this is in the top two or three. For sure.

I’m quite possibly the least patriotic person you know. Srsly. I would hang an American flag on my house over My Dead Body. But this book made me think about things and feel proud and optimistic about the democratic process. This will be easily cured by turning on the news for .47 seconds…but people, it is quite a feat to move me to flag waving thoughts.

You can read it all online. There is some content in the book that’s new though.

Do not tell my financial planner…but I bought two more Maira Kalman books. Her illustrated Elements of Style – watch this space for some better writing maybe! Mebbe not. I also got some collection type book – all Maira, all the time.

I love reading. Word.

Action shot. I guess this was pre-nacho break.

Mmmmm, nachos. I’m hungry.

I’m ready for him to be home now. He’s going on a 12 hr day. Laws!

Oh for the love

I got my hair cut. It’s super short and pretty cute. I think it needs to be super short or long short. But not medium short. Some of it on top is about one inch long and sticks up. Me likey.

I just splurged nineynine cents on a new app. Me likey that too. Quad photos. Fab.

Foxtrot!! I’m bored.

Good Morning and Happy “Friday.” I’m off work tomorrow, so this is my Friday. Get it? Get it?

And lo, there was much rejoicing.

So I started the next Maira Kalman book and fell in love even more. I like it better than the first one I read – it has history, Americana, and it’s handwritten – which is a huge bonus, right? I googled her and figgered out that this whole book, the whole enchilada, was first published in the NYTimes as a blog, with an entry per month. So, I coulda read it all online and not put the book on my Xmas list. But I don’t regret it. I like having it in my cold, dry mitts.

So, here’s the link to January’s entry – she went to the inauguration. I love it – every page. You can save yourself many dollhairs and just look online.

It’s joyful and beautiful…but made me a little sad that everything is just a cluster-foxtrot nowadays, you know? Same as it ever was, yo. Stagmire!

In green purse news – I’m still enjoying the new Green Purse of Power. You know how I was bragging about its excellent design and function vis-à-vis the organization? It continues to amaze. I open it up to look for something and it’s as though the item appears instantly. Magic! Today I was looking for some lipstick (how funny is lipstick? who wears lipstick anymore? I do, about 1x per week) and it jumped out at me, and applied itself perfectly to my lips. It’s Purse Nirvana.

In I want to throat punch my coworker news…well, you get the picture.

I’m sitting here listening to the one other person at work today on my side of the floor. She’s a recruiter and she’s absolutely gifted when it comes to dealing w/people on the phone. I just listened to her call someone and tell them they weren’t selected to even come in and interview for a position they applied for and she did it so well it was like she was delivering good news. That’s a talent, that is. And she’s nice as nice can be, AND crafty. Gotta love that.

Time to go. Here are my two fave pics from the January Kalman blog:
